The Bible teaches that we are to uphold righteousness and avoid becoming entangled in the sins of others.

One of the key passages that addresses being partakers of another man’s sin is found in 1 Timothy 5:22, which states the importance of not participating in or enabling the sins of others.

2 John 1:9-11 warns that bidding God speed to those that abide not in the doctrine of Christ, is partaking in their evil deeds.

James 4:4 warns that a friend of those engaged in sinful behaviour, is the enemy of God.

Ephesians 5:11 instructs us to not associate with those that sin, but rather to reprove them.

Galatians 6:1 instructs us to “restore” those who have fallen into sin with a spirit of meekness, whilst being cautious not to be tempted ourselves.

Furthermore, in Jude 1:22-23 we are called to exercise discernment when it comes to having compassion for and saving others.

Therefore, we rely on God’s word for wisdom and understanding when choosing with whom to associate, and how to help others overcome sin, whilst safeguarding our own spiritual standing with God.
