✝ Doctrine

The law, in Exodus 22:1-15, explains the difference between restoration and restitution:

Therefore, when the physical thing cannot be restored in its original condition, restitution is to be made in its place.

The law, in Leviticus 6:2-5, prescribes that in each case of obtaining some thing by false accusation or fraud, the guilty is required to restore in the principal, and give 20% more unto him against whom he has trespassed.

Likewise Numbers 5:6-7 prescribes that the guilty confess his sin which he has done, and recompense his trespass, that is to restore in the principal and add 20% thereof, unto him against whom he has trespassed.

And Proverbs 6:30-31 prescribes that the thief who no longer has the principal shall make restitution, that is to restore sevenfold.
