  5. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Works of the flesh

Galatians 5:19-21
  1. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
  2. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
  3. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 10:16
  1. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

Fruit of the Spirit

  2. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Ephesians 5:9
  1. (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Proverbs 11:30
  1. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Faith without works is dead

James 2:14-26
  1. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
  2. If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
  3. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
  4. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
  5. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
  6. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
  7. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
  8. Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
  9. Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
  10. And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
  11. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
  12. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
  13. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

No or corrupt fruit

Matthew 3:10
  1. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Luke 6:43-45
  1. For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
  2. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
  3. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Luke 13:6-9
  1. He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
  2. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
  3. And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
  4. And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

John 15:1-6
  1. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
  2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
  3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
  4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
  5. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
  6. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

Bring forth fruit unto God

  1. The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

Romans 6:20-23
  1. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
  2. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
  3. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
  4. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  2. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
  3. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Colossians 1:5-6
  1. For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
  2. Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

Hebrews 12:11
  1. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Warning

Proverbs 18:21
  1. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

  3. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
  4. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
  5. Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
  6. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
  7. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
  8. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
  9. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
  10. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
  11. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
