Deception

Claim: A divorcee can remarry after salvation.

2 Corinthians 5:17
  1. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This claim is based on “regeneration clears the slate”, such that the divorcee is free from all encumberances of their previous life.

The argument that salvation changes the nature of divorce is a fallacy. It’s akin to saying that salvation changes the nature of fatherhood.

It is obvious that a father before salvation remains a father after salvation. The same applies for a divorcee; a divorcee before salvation remains a divorcee after salvation.

Titus 3:4-7, explains that regeneration occurs by the renewal in the spirit of your mind; we put off the old “dead” man and put on the new “living” man.

Hebrews 9:14 clarifies with the declaration that the blood of Jesus obtained eternal redemption for us to purge our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

1 Corinthians 7:32-34 explains that God draws a distinction between married and unmarried.

And Matthew 19:4-6 shows there is no distinction between pre and post salvation, that is grace, for remarriage.

Luke 16:18, Mark 10:12 and Romans 7:2-3 clearly show the distinction is between your husband or wife being alive or dead.
