Guilt defined

Leviticus 5:17 deems you guilty when you sin by doing that which is forbidden by commandment of the LORD.

James 2:10-11 explains when you keep the whole law bar one, that one offence makes you guilty of all the law. And Leviticus 5:17 specifically declares you guilty even though an offence is committed in ignorance.

Romans 3:10-11 and 3:19-20 states that no one is righteous, and all the world is guilty before God.

Thus, “guilt” is the opposite of “righteous”.

There are no shades of grey. It is black or white. You are either “guilty” or “righteous”. Just as a woman cannot be partly pregnant, so too you cannot be partly guilty or partly righteous.

Therefore, the attribution of “false” to either state is deception.

Ascribing guilt

Romans 2:13-15 states that when your thoughts accuse you, it is your conscious bearing witness of the law written on your heart. Thus, you know when you sin and are guilty.

When you, or someone else, ascribe guilt to yourself in error you are deceived. God commands in 1 Corinthians 3:18-20 to not deceive yourself, in 1 Corinthians 15:33 to be not deceived, and in Ephesians 5:6 to let no one else deceive you.

Double minded

Ephesians 4:14-15 commands to grow up and stop being double minded.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 and 11:13-15 warn when you have respect to persons, those false teachers beguile and corrupt your minds.

James 1:8 clearly states that a double minded man is unstable in all that he does, and warns in James 2:8-9, that to have respect of persons is sin.

Be men

1 Corinthians 14:20 commands “to be men” in understanding, and 1 Corinthians 16:13 explains that “to be men” is to watch, stand fast and be strong.

Acts 17:11 shows that “men” do not accept things on face value, rather they search the scripture to verify the truth of the matter.

This is supported with commands in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 to prove all things, and 2 Timothy 2:15 to study to know the truth aright, and 1 John 4:1 to try the spirits.

Psalms 138:2 declares the LORD has magnified his word above all his name, and John 1:1 and 1:14 plainly state that Jesus is the Word. And in John 17:17 Jesus declares that God’s word is truth.

In John 8:31-32 Jesus explains that for the truth to make you free, you must know the truth, and to know the truth, you must continue in his word.

Therefore, as commanded in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, let your faith not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
