Deceiving and being deceived is your choice

Method of deception

Jeremiah 9:5
  1. And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

Matthew 24:11, 24
  1. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
  1. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

John 8:43-45
  1. Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word.
  2. Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
  3. And because I tell [you] the truth, ye believe me not.

Romans 16:17-18
  1. Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
  2. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Ephesians 4:14
  1. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

2 Thessalonians 2:10
  1. And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

2 Timothy 3:13
  1. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
  1. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

1 John 2:15-17

Deceive not

Proverbs 24:28-29
  1. Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
  2. Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

Proverbs 26:28
  1. A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

Leviticus 19:11, 16
  1. Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
  1. Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

Colossians 3:9
  1. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

James 3:14
  1. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Revelation 22:14-15
  1. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
  2. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Be not deceived

Deuteronomy 11:16-17
  1. Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
  2. And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.

Galatians 6:7-8
  1. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
  2. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
  1. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
  2. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 15:33
  1. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Let no man deceive you

Jeremiah 29:8
  1. For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

2 Thessalonians 2:3
  1. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

1 John 3:7-10
  1. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Let no man deceive himself

1 Corinthians 3:18-20
  1. Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
  2. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
  3. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

Galatians 6:3
  1. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

James 1:22, 26
  1. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
  1. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

James 2:17-20
  1. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
  2. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
  3. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
  4. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

1 John 1:8
  1. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  1. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

  1. Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Speak truth

Proverbs 8:7
  1. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

Zechariah 8:16-17

  5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2 John 1:8-11
  1. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
  2. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
  3. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed:
  4. For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Stand

1 Corinthians 2:4-5
  1. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
  2. That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

  1. Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

Ephesians 6:10-18
  1. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
  2. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Psalm 15:1-5
