Deception

Permission to move on

β€œ1 Corinthians 7:15, ESV, seems to give the innocent party permission to move on.”


A believer does not seek divorce; however, when an unbelieving husband or wife seeks divorce, the believer gives the divorce, they are not bound to refuse the divorce.

This does not give permission to remarry, where is the second witness?

On the contrary scripture is very clear on remarriage.


1 Corinthians 7:10-16
  1. And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
  2. But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
  3. But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
  4. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
  5. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
  6. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such [cases]: but God hath called us to peace.
  7. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save [thy] husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save [thy] wife?

Mark 10:4-9
  1. And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
  2. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
  3. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
  4. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
  5. And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
  6. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Not directed to return to former husband

β€œJesus doesn’t tell the woman at the well to go back to her first husband, John 4:5-42.”


He can't, that's an abomination.


Deuteronomy 24:3-4
  1. And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
  2. Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

Trapped in an abusive relationship

β€œPeople should not stay trapped in an abusive relationship.”


They are pemitted to leave, but not to remarry.


1 Corinthians 7:10-11

Respect and support remarriage

β€œOnce people are remarried, rightly or wrongly, we need to respect and support that marriage.”


Compassion is for those who do not commit a sin unto death.


1 John 5:16
  1. If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

Jude 1:22-23
  1. And of some have compassion, making a difference:
  2. And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Adultery is a sin unto death

πŸ“ Remarriage whilst your husband or wife is living is adultery.


1 Corinthians 6:9-10
  1. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
  2. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21
  1. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
  2. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
  3. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

We are to reprove and instruct those that oppose themselves.


Ephesians 5:11
  1. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

2 Timothy 2:24-26
  1. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
  2. In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
  3. And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

When we believe, we speak.


Proverbs 24:11-12
  1. If thou forbear to deliver [them that are] drawn unto death, and [those that are] ready to be slain;
  2. If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and shall [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?

James 4:17
  1. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
