Micah 6:8
- He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Step 1 Admit the lie
Acknowledge that you have lied and accept the consequences of your actions.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:21 we are commanded to “prove all things”, in 1 John 4:1 to “try the spirits” and in 2 Timothy 2:15 to “rightly divide the word of truth”.
Step 2 Understand the reasons for the lie
Know and understand the reasons behind the lie so you learn to control your tongue.
Matthew 10:16, James 3:2 and 1 Corinthians 9:27 emphasise we are to be wise in the ways of the world, whilst maintaining our own right standing.
Step 3 Repent
Change your mind, that is decide to no longer deceive and be deceived.
Proverbs 12:17 and 2 Timothy 3:13 state that evil men lie.
Luke 17:3-4 declares you must repent to be forgiven.
Step 4 Show the fruit of repentance
Genuine repentance always results in visible evidence of your change of mind.
Speak the Truth
Be as honest and open as possible, even if it’s difficult or uncomfortable.Ephesians 5:6-7 states those that have believed your lie are partakers in your sin. Proverbs 24:11-12, Colossians 3:9 and Ephesians 4:25 declare it is your duty to correct the record by stating the truth to each person affected by the lie, else as Jesus says in Matthew 23:15 you make that person twice as fit for hell as yourself.
Make restoration
Do that which is lawful and right.Restoration is prescribed in Leviticus 6:2-5 and Ezekiel 33:14-16. Restore in the principal all that about which you have lied, add 20% more and give it to whom it belongs.
Sin no more
Keep God’s commandments.In John 14:15, John 5:14 and Romans 6:1-2, Jesus commands those that love him to keep his commandments and sin no more. This is supported by God in Micah 6:8 where he declares exactly what he requires of us.
In Luke 9:23 and 1 John 2:16, we are admonished each day to choose to live according to God’s word. That, as stated in Romans 13:9, Galatians 5:14, and Zechariah 8:16-17, is to love your neighbour as yourself, stop lying and speak truth.
To speak truth you must know the truth, John 8:32. And to know the truth you must read that which was spoken unto you by God, Isaiah 34:16, and Matthew 22:31.
